Below are some of the questions we are most frequently asked about membership, deer stalking and firearms licensing.

Do I need a Firearm Certificate before joining?
No.
Many members join before obtaining their Firearm Certificate. Beginners may participate in guided deer stalking using a Club or estate rifle together with suitable ammunition, allowing them to gain practical experience before deciding whether to apply for their own FAC.
Can complete beginners join the Club?
Yes.
Capreolus Club welcomes responsible newcomers and provides guidance, training and practical experience to help members develop their knowledge and confidence.
Do I need previous deer stalking experience?
No.
Previous experience is not essential. Whether you are completely new to deer stalking or an experienced rifle owner, the Club offers opportunities suitable for a wide range of experience levels.
What qualification do I need?
For those new to deer stalking, the Club recommends completion of the Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 (PDS1) before progressing towards independent deer stalking.
Can I borrow a rifle?
Yes.
Where appropriate and in accordance with UK firearms legislation, members may use a Club or estate rifle together with suitable ammunition during guided stalking outings.
Can the Club help with my Firearm Certificate?
Yes.
Capreolus Club regularly assists members with Firearm Certificate applications, certificate variations, renewals, firearms licensing guidance and, where appropriate, references and confirmation of suitable deer stalking opportunities.
How quickly can I join?
Applications are normally acknowledged within 48 hours.
Once your application has been processed and approved, you will receive your welcome pack and may begin enjoying the benefits of membership.
Can overseas visitors become members?
Yes.
Capreolus Club welcomes members from around the world.
The Club can advise overseas members regarding Visitor Firearm Permits and, where appropriate, members may use a Club or estate rifle during their visit to the United Kingdom.
What species of deer can I stalk?
Capreolus Club offers opportunities to stalk all six species of British wild deer:
- Red Deer
- Roe Deer
- Fallow Deer
- Sika Deer
- Chinese Water Deer
- Reeves' Muntjac
With different statutory open seasons applying to each species, opportunities exist throughout the year.
What is Capreolus Club PLUS?
Capreolus Club PLUS is the Club's exclusive Deer Stalking & Shooting Syndicate.
Experienced members enjoy access to professionally managed sporting estates across Southern England, allowing them to stalk unaccompanied on a simple Book & Go basis, often with as little as 24 hours' notice.
Is membership suitable for experienced stalkers?
Absolutely.
Many members are highly experienced deer stalkers who value professionally managed stalking opportunities, Club events, networking, expert advice and access to the renowned Capreolus Club PLUS Deer Stalking & Shooting Syndicate.
Can I attend Club events if I don't stalk regularly?
Yes.
Many members enjoy the wider benefits of Club membership, including social events, guest speakers, networking opportunities, newsletters and exclusive sporting experiences, even if they are unable to stalk as often as they would like.
